Web Clipper

The Web Clipper saves a web page, or only the part you selected, from your browser into Filarr. The page becomes an encrypted note, like any other.

The clip goes straight from your browser to the Filarr desktop app on the same computer, over a local connection. No Filarr server sees it on the way.

What you need

• The Filarr desktop app, open, with your profile unlocked. A clip sent while Filarr is locked is refused.
• The Filarr Web Clipper extension in your browser. It is not available from the browser extension stores yet, so this guide has no download link to give you.

Turn on the Web Clipper

1. Open Settings → Web Clipper.
2. Turn on Enable the Web Clipper.

The line under it now says Browser link active, followed by the port used on your computer.

Pair your browser

You pair each browser once.

1. In Settings → Web Clipper, click Pair a browser. A 6-digit code appears. It expires after 60 seconds.
2. In your browser, click the Filarr Web Clipper icon.
3. Type the code, then click Pair.

The browser now appears under Paired browsers, with its last activity. After three wrong codes, the code stops working: click Pair a browser again for a new one.

Clip a page

1. Open the page in your browser. To keep only a passage, select it.
2. Click the Filarr Web Clipper icon, then Clip this page / selection.

The extension confirms when Filarr has saved the note.

What becomes of a clipped page

• Filarr creates a new note in a notebook called Clippings. The notebook is created the first time you clip, in the profile open in Filarr.
• The note takes the title of the page.
• Its first line reads Clipped from, followed by the page's address.
• With a selection, the note holds the selected text. Without one, it holds the main part of the page (its article, when the page has one).
• Filarr cleans the page before saving: scripts, forms and embedded frames are removed.
• The note is encrypted like all your notes, and syncs with them if your profile syncs.

Limits

The monthly count is kept by the desktop app on this computer. The extension's own messages are in English only.

Unpair a browser

1. In Settings → Web Clipper, find the browser under Paired browsers.
2. Click Unpair, then confirm.

To stop all clipping, turn off Enable the Web Clipper.
