A template is a ready-made page: the headings, lists and tables you would otherwise type again for every meeting or every project. Filarr comes with 19 templates, and you can turn any note into a template of your own.
Start a note from a template
When you create a note (the + button or Ctrl+Shift+N), the Start from a template window opens. Type in Search templates... to find one, then click it. The note opens, filled in, with the name of the template as its title. See Write your first note.
The window only opens for a new note that has no title yet, such as a new sub-page. A daily note gets the date as its title, so it never offers templates. The Daily note template makes a separate note, titled with the name of the template.
The template manager
To browse the templates, open the More actions menu (…) at the top of the list of notes, then Templates.
- Click a template on the left to preview it on the right.
- Click Use Template to create a note from it.
The preview also lists the Variables: the template fills in by itself (see below).
Suggest templates in a blank note controls the window shown at each new note. Untick it, and + creates a blank note directly.

Make your own template
- Write a note the way you want your template to look.
- With the note open, click Save as Template at the bottom of the list of notes. You can also right-click the note in the list and choose Save as Template.
The template takes the title of the note as its name, and "Created from" the note as its description. It appears under Custom in the template manager, and in the window of new notes.
To delete one of your templates, open the template manager, find it under Custom, and click its bin (Delete). Built-in templates cannot be deleted.
Variables
Two words between double braces are replaced when you use a template:
| Write in the template | Becomes |
|---|---|
{{title}} | The title of the new note, which is the name of the template |
{{date}} | Today's date, in the short format of your language |
For example, a template with the line "Meeting of {{date}}" gives "Meeting of 9/24/2026" in English.
