Folders hold your files. You can nest them as deep as you like, move files between them by dragging, give each folder a color and an emoji, and choose how its content is shown.

Create a folder

  1. Open the folder where the new one should go.
  2. Click New Folder at the top.
  3. Type a name under Folder name. Check Location, and change it if needed.
  4. Click Create.

Other ways to create a folder:

  • press Ctrl+Alt+N;
  • click + next to Folders in the sidebar;
  • right-click an empty spot in a folder, then New folder;
  • on the home page, click New above your folders.

Open, rename and delete

Click a folder to open it. The back arrow at the top left returns to the screen you came from in this tab: hover it to see where it leads. Alt+Left and Alt+Right go back and forward in the history of the tab. The path at the top of the page takes you to any parent folder, and Alt+Up goes up one level.

Right-click a folder to see everything you can do with it.

  • Rename: right-click, then Rename. You can also select the item and press F2.
  • Delete: right-click, then Delete, or press Del. The folder and its content go to the trash, and a message offers Undo for a few seconds. See Trash and restore.

Move files and folders

Drag and drop

Drag a file or a folder onto a folder card. The card lights up. If you keep hovering, the folder opens ("Opening…") so you can go deeper before you let go.

You can also drop items on a part of the path at the top of the page, or on the back arrow, to send them to a parent folder.

With the Move window

  1. Select the items to move (see below).
  2. Click Move in the selection bar.
  3. Pick the destination in the tree. Search a folder... finds it by name, and New folder here creates one on the spot.
  4. Click Move.

Copy works the same way and leaves the originals in place. The right-click menu of an item offers Move and Copy too. Ctrl+X and Ctrl+C open these same windows: they do not use the clipboard.

A folder cannot go into itself or into one of its own subfolders.

Select several items

  • tick the box that appears on a card when you point at it;
  • Ctrl+click or Shift+click;
  • draw a box with the mouse on an empty area;
  • press Ctrl+A to select everything.

A bar then appears at the bottom with Select all, Move, Copy, Download, Add to favorites, Vault and Delete. Vault sends the items to a shared vault, when you have one.

Download with several files builds a ZIP archive, see ZIP files and other archives. In the web app, the bar also offers Make available offline.

Grid or list

The two buttons at the right of the toolbar switch between a grid of cards and a list. Ctrl+Shift+V does the same.

The list shows the size and the date of change of each file.

Sort and group

Click Sort by to sort by Name, Date modified, Size or Type. The arrow next to it flips the order.

Click Group to gather items under headings: None, Type, Date modified or First letter.

The search field at the left of the toolbar filters the folder by name. Type # followed by a tag to see only the files with that tag, see Tags, favorites and recent files.

Color and icon

  1. Right-click the folder, then Color & icon.
  2. Pick a color under Preset colors, or + for a color of your own.
  3. Pick an emoji under Icon (emoji). The search field helps you find one.
  4. Click Apply.

Customize a folder's page

Inside a folder, the Folder options button (three dots, top right) goes further:

  • Add an icon or a cover decorates the top of the folder;
  • Add a description pins a welcome note at the top, to say what the folder is for;
  • Edit the block band adds a band of blocks above the files: Recent in this folder, Pinned subfolders, Storage for this folder, Members and sharing, Folder tasks, Activity;
  • Same as everywhere, Same as the parent folder and Specific to this folder decide where these choices come from;
  • Display settings specific to this folder keeps a view and a sort for this folder alone.
