My templates and shared designs

Save a design as a template, publish it to the Marketplace, and add the ones other Filarr accounts share to your templates.

A template is a starting point: you open it, you create a design from it, and the template stays as it is. The Atelier offers its own; you can add yours, share them with other Filarr accounts and use the ones they publish.

Save a design as a template

  1. Open the design in the Atelier.
  2. Click the arrow next to Export, then Save as template.

Filarr saves a copy: the original design does not change. Comments are not carried into the template. The copy is a .fdtemplate file in the Atelier folder, synced like your other files.

Use your templates

On the Atelier page, the My templates section lists your templates and the ones you added from the Marketplace. Click a card to see its pages, then Create with this template: a new design opens.

The card's buttons:

  • the pencil opens the template itself in the editor, to change it;
  • the shop icon publishes it to the Marketplace (see the next section);
  • the bin moves it to Filarr's trash; designs created from it do not change.

In the editor, the Templates panel has a My templates filter: its pages are added to the open design.

Publish a design to the Marketplace

Publishing makes your design visible to every Filarr account, as soon as it is published. You need a cloud account.

  1. In the editor, arrow next to Export › Publish to the Marketplace…; or, on the Atelier page, the publish button on one of your template cards.
  2. Filarr prepares the design and checks what would prevent publishing it (see below).
  3. Fill in the name, the description, the category and, if you like, keywords and a publisher name.
  4. Check the Identifier: it names the design on the Marketplace and cannot change later.
  5. Tick I have the right to share this design and everything in it (images included).
  6. Click Sign and publish.

Filarr signs the publication with your account key, on your device. Whoever adds the design checks that signature: nobody can change it on the way or publish it in your name.

What is sent, and what prevents publishing

  • The design itself, with its images, and a few previews of its pages.
  • Comments are removed before sending: they carry people's names.
  • An imported font (a font file you added, not one of Filarr's fonts) prevents publishing: most font licences forbid redistributing the file. Replace it with a Filarr font.
  • A soundtrack prevents publishing, for the same reason. Remove it before publishing.
  • A published design weighs 25 MB at most and has 100 pages at most.

Publish a new version

Open Publish to the Marketplace… again from the changed design, then pick the published design under Publish as. The new version replaces the old one in the catalogue, and its page tells those who added the old one that a newer version exists.

Find other people's designs

Two places lead to the same catalogue:

  • the Community section of the Atelier page;
  • Marketplace › Designs in the sidebar.

Search by word, filter by category, sort by Newest or Most added. Click a design to open its page: its pages, its description, its format, its publisher and its versions. Filarr checks the signature before showing anything.

  • Add to my templates puts it in My templates: you can use it as often as you like, even offline.
  • Create a design from this template creates a design from it straight away and opens it.

The fingerprint shown identifies the publisher; the name is chosen by the publisher. If a design you already added comes back signed by another key, Filarr shows you and asks before replacing it.

Remove a published design

Marketplace › Designs › My published designs lists what you published. Remove takes the design out of the catalogue. Nothing is deleted: those who added it keep it, and a new version puts it back online.

Report a design

On a design's page, Report sends your reason to Filarr's moderation team. A design removed by moderation disappears from the catalogue and from its page.

When it is not available

  • With a local profile, without a cloud account, the Marketplace does not appear; My templates still works.
  • An organization can turn off the Marketplace, or only publishing, for its members.
