Change the language

Switch Filarr between French and English, and know which few texts stay in one language.

Filarr speaks French and English. You can switch at any time, and the change is immediate: no restart, nothing to reload.

Change the language

  1. Open Settings → Language.
  2. In Interface language, choose Français or English.

A message confirms Language updated, and the whole interface switches at once. In the desktop app, the menu of the notification area and the reminder notifications follow the same choice.

The choice applies to this device, or to this browser for the web app, whatever profile you open. Reset settings in Settings → About keeps your language.

At first launch

Filarr starts in French if your system is set to French, and in English otherwise. The first setup screen, Welcome to Filarr!, also has an Interface language choice, so you can switch before going further. See Set up Filarr the first time.

What stays in one language

A few things do not follow the setting:

  • Your own content is never translated: file names, folder names, notes.
  • What Filarr created for you keeps the language it was created in. The starter folders and a note made from a template are not renamed when you switch.
  • The Windows Explorer entry that protects a file with Filarr is always in French: Protéger avec Filarr.
  • The Clippings notebook, where web clips land, has this English name in both languages.
  • Recovery phrases (12 or 24 words) always use English words.
  • The Web Clipper extension shows its messages in English only.
  • The rating buttons of flashcards (Again, Hard, Good, Easy) are in English in both languages.
  • Some emails from Filarr are in English only, such as the email that checks your address. An invitation arrives in the language of the person who sends it.
  • The storage provider list in Where synced files live shows its last choice in French: Autre (MinIO, Garage, NAS). It means "Other".
