Contacts, inbox and mentions

Link up with the people you work with in the address book, block someone, and follow in the inbox the tasks and comments that concern you.

Two tools help you keep track of the people you work with. The address book lists the people you have linked with, the requests you received and the people you blocked. The inbox gathers what concerns you in shared vaults, such as a task assigned to you or a reply to your comment.

Both need a cloud account.

The address book

Go to Settings → Account & Sync, section Address book.

A contact is someone you have linked with, and who accepted. Once you are linked, you can address a file to them on send.filarr.com without typing their address. See Send files with Filarr Send.

Invite someone

  1. In Email address, or @handle, type the person's email address. If they have a public @handle that accepts invitations, you can type it instead.
  2. Click Invite.

Filarr confirms that the invitation is sent. It never tells you whether the address has a Filarr account: that way, nobody can use invitations to find out who uses Filarr. Once the person signs in with that address, and it is verified, they find your request in their own address book. An invitation stays valid for 30 days.

Your invitation waits under Invitations you sent. Click Cancel to take it back.

When you invite someone by handle, Filarr never shows you the address behind it, even after they accept.

Answer a request

Requests from other people appear under Requests you received.

  • Accept links you: the person joins Your contacts.
  • Decline refuses. Declining is silent: the other person is not told.

Under Your contacts, each person has two buttons:

  • Unlink removes the link between you;
  • Block also stops them from reaching you.

A blocked person can no longer invite you, address a send to you, or ask you for a deposit. A share link they already have still opens, and another account of theirs counts as another person. Blocked people are listed under Blocked, with Unblock.

The address book is separate from shared vaults: to give someone access to a vault, invite them from the vault. See Invite people and manage members.

The inbox

Click the bell at the top of the window. The Inbox panel opens. In a very narrow window, the bell is hidden: widen the window to see it.

Each entry says who did what, in which note and which vault, and when. The kinds you can receive:

EntryWhen
… assigned you a taskA member assigned you a task in a vault note.
… replied to your commentSomeone answered a comment thread you took part in.
… commented on your pageSomeone added a comment on a note where you had already commented.
… resolved a threadSomeone resolved a comment thread you took part in.
  • The tabs filter the list: All, Unread, Mentions, Comments, Tasks.
  • Click an entry to open the note it is about. The entry is then marked as read.
  • Mark all as read marks the whole list as read.
  • The archive button at the end of a line removes the entry from the list.

Click anywhere outside the panel to close it.

Filarr checks for new entries every minute while its window is visible, and when you come back to it. When something arrives while you are looking elsewhere, Filarr shows a system notification. Filarr can also email you about a new entry, and notify your phone if you use the mobile app.

Mentions

In a vault note, type @ followed by a name to mention a member: their name appears in the text, so everyone reading the note knows who is concerned. In the inbox, the Mentions tab groups the mention entries. To be sure someone is told about a piece of work, assign them a task: the assignment reaches their inbox.
