Images and files in notes

Add images from your vault, your computer or the clipboard, place and resize them, open them full screen, and attach file cards to a note.

A picture often says more than a paragraph: a screenshot, a photo of a whiteboard, a diagram. You can put images anywhere in a note, place them to the left or the right of the text, and open them full screen. You can also add a card that points to a file of your vault.

Add an image

You have three ways to do it.

From your vault or your computer

  1. Type /image in the note and press Enter.
  2. In the Choose an image from the vault window, find the image: the most recent ones come first, with the folder they are in. Type in Search a file… to narrow the list.
  3. Click the image.

To take an image from your computer instead, click From my device… in the same window.

The window lists the files kept inside your folders. A file stored outside any folder does not show there: move it into a folder first, or pick it with From my device….

By pasting

Copy an image (a screenshot, for example), click in the note and press Ctrl+V.

By dragging

Drag one or several image files from your computer into the note.

Only images can be pasted or dropped this way. For any other file, use the File command, below.

Where the image lives

Filarr puts a copy of the image inside the note. The copy is protected and synced with the note, and stays there even if you delete the original.

An image taken from your vault also keeps a link to its file. That link shows in the Linked Items of the note and in the graph. If you edit the file later, the image in the note does not change: insert it again to get the new version.

Place and resize an image

Hover or click an image: a small bar appears on it.

  • Align left, Center and Align right move the image across the page. A new image starts on the left.
  • Wrap text lets the text flow beside the image. It has no effect on a centered image, so the button is greyed out.
  • Drag the handle in the bottom right corner (Drag to resize) to make the image bigger or smaller.

Open an image full screen

Double-click the image, or click its Open full screen button. In full screen:

Right-click an image in the note to Open full screen, Copy image or Save image as… on your computer.

Attach a file card

  1. Type /file in the note and press Enter.
  2. In the Choose a file from the vault window, click the file. From my device… picks one from your computer.

The note shows a card with an icon, the name of the file and its type. The card is a reminder: clicking it does not open the file. To open the file, go to its folder in Filarr.
