Send files with Filarr Send

Send encrypted files to anyone from send.filarr.com, with or without an account, then follow or revoke your sends. Filarr Send lives on the website.

Filarr Send sends one or more files to someone, once, by link. Filarr encrypts the files in your browser before they leave your computer, and the key stays in the link. The recipient needs neither Filarr nor an account.

Send files

  1. Open https://send.filarr.com in your browser. If you have a Filarr account, sign in: your sends then appear in a list, and you can revoke them from any device. You can also send without an account.
  2. On the Send page, drop your files on the frame, or click it to choose them. You can send several files at once, but not a folder.
  3. Choose how long the link lasts under Lifetime, and how many times it can be downloaded under Downloads.
  4. Tick the options you need:
    • Protect with a password: Filarr suggests a password, which you can change. The recipient has to type it;
    • Show without allowing a download: the recipient can view the file but gets no download button. It only works for a single file that can be previewed, and it doesn't stop anyone from taking a screenshot;
    • Allow a reply: after downloading, the recipient can send you up to five files back through the same page. When your link is ready, the page also shows a private address where you read those replies. It is shown only once: keep it, especially if you are not signed in.
  5. Click Encrypt and create the link.

The page shows Your link is ready. Click Copy link, then paste the link in your message.

How much you can send, and for how long, depends on your plan. Without an account, fewer sends can be active at the same time, and each one allows fewer downloads. The What the server enforces box of the page shows the limits that apply to you.

The first time you send while signed in

send.filarr.com asks you to create a password for your files. It protects the keys of your sends, so that you can find your full links again on your other devices. It is different from your account password. This is also the file password that the Shares page of the Filarr app talks about.

What the recipient sees

The recipient opens the link in any browser.

  • If the send has a password, they type it and click Unlock and download.
  • They click Download (decrypt in browser). The files are decrypted on their device.
  • The page shows the time left before the link disappears, and the downloads left.
  • If you allowed a reply, they can then click Reply to this sender.

When the link has expired, has been revoked or has used up its downloads, the page says so, and Filarr deletes the encrypted files from its servers.

Follow and revoke your sends

When you are signed in, the Sends page of send.filarr.com lists your sends. Filters show the Active ones, All, the Finished ones, the Revoked ones and the Protected ones.

  • Copy the full link rebuilds the link, key included, once you have unlocked your file password at the top of the page.
  • Revoke this send stops the link for good and deletes the encrypted files.

Without an account, only the browser you used can revoke the send. The Sends page of that browser lists it, with Copy link and Revoke. It appears in no other list, and you can't revoke it from another device.

Address a send to someone

When you are signed in and have created your file password, Address it to someone lets you name the recipient: one of your contacts, with Someone from your contacts, or an email address. The send then also appears on the recipient's Files received page on send.filarr.com. For an email address, it shows up once they sign in with that address, even if they create their account later, as long as the send hasn't expired.

  • Filarr sends no email: give them the link yourself.
  • The Files received page lists the send but can't open it. Its key is only in the link you gave them.

Ask someone for files

A file request works the other way round. You create a deposit link and give it to someone. They drop their files on the page it opens, encrypted, without an account, and the files arrive in your account on send.filarr.com.

File requests are created and followed on send.filarr.com, on the File requests page. Creating them is reserved for the Teams and Enterprise plans, unless your account already has requests.

An organization can turn off Filarr Send and file requests for its members.
