Reminders and timeline
Put a reminder on a file or a folder, manage your reminders in one place, and see in the timeline what was created or changed lately.

A reminder brings a file or a folder back to your attention at the right time: an invoice to chase, a contract to renew. The timeline, for its part, shows what was created and changed lately in your files.
Add a reminder
- Right-click the file or the folder, then choose Add Reminder.
- Write the Reminder message, for example "Follow up with Aoife if the invoice is still unpaid".
- Pick the day: a Quick date (Today, Tomorrow, In 3 days, In a week), or a Date of your choice.
- Pick the Time, or one of the Quick time buttons.
- Choose the Priority: Low, Normal or High.
- If the reminder should come back, choose a Recurrence: Daily, Weekly or Monthly. The Recurring presets set the recurrence and the time in one click, for example Every Friday at 5pm.
- Check the summary at the bottom ("Reminder scheduled on October 1, 2026 at 09:00"), then click Add a reminder.
Once you have chosen a recurrence, + Save next to Recurring presets keeps it as a preset of your own.
Notes can have reminders too, from their right-click menu. Tasks in notes have their own reminders: see Tasks.
The Reminders page
Click Reminders in the sidebar. A red badge on it counts the reminders that are overdue.
The My reminders page groups your reminders under Overdue, Upcoming (7 days), Later and Done. Each one shows the file or folder it is about, its message and its date.
On each reminder:
- the first three buttons push it back by 10 minutes, 1 hour or 1 day;
- the tick marks it as done;
- the cross deletes it;
- a click on the name of the file or folder opens it.
When several reminders are overdue, Mark all done in the Overdue section closes them all at once. In the Done section, Clear completed removes the finished ones.
In the desktop app, when a recurring reminder goes off, Filarr moves it on to its next date.
When a reminder notifies you
In the desktop app, Filarr shows a notification from your system at the time of the reminder. It does so even when its window is closed, as long as Filarr still runs in the notification area. If you quit Filarr, it cannot notify you: a reminder missed in the last 24 hours then shows up when you open Filarr again.
On Windows, turn on Launch Filarr at login in Settings → System so that reminders keep working after you restart your computer.
The timeline
Click Timeline in the sidebar. The page lists what happened in your files, the most recent first, grouped by Today, Yesterday, This week, This month and Older.
- All, Created and Modified choose which events you see.
- All types, Folders, Documents, Images, Audio, Videos, Archives and Other filter by kind of item.
- The name of the folder under each entry opens that folder.
- Load more shows older events.
