When you delete a file or a folder, Filarr does not destroy it: it goes to the trash. From there you can put it back where it was, or delete it for good.
Delete a file or a folder
Right-click the item and choose Move to trash, or select it and press Del. Filarr moves the item to the trash at once, without a confirmation. A folder goes with everything inside it, including the notes stored in it and in its subfolders, from a folder, the home page, the sidebar or the Folders page.
A message then shows for ten seconds with Undo: click it to bring the item back at once; a folder comes back with the notes it took along. Restoring a folder later from the trash also brings back the notes it took along; a note you had moved to the trash on its own, before the folder, stays there.
Open the trash
Click Trash in the sidebar. The page lists the deleted items, grouped by date: Today, Yesterday, This week, This month and Older. For each one, you see its size, the folder it comes from ("From: To sort") and when it was deleted.
The Local trash section holds your own files and folders. With a cloud account, a second section, Deleted shared vaults (cloud, 30 days), holds the shared vaults you deleted, see Shared vaults.
Restore an item
Click Restore next to the item. It goes back to the folder it came from, and a message tells you where.
Delete an item for good
- Click Delete next to the item.
- Confirm with Delete permanently.
Work on several items
Tick the boxes in front of the items, or click Select all. The buttons at the top then act on the selection:
- Restore selection puts them all back, each in its folder;
- Delete selection deletes them for good, after a confirmation;
- Deselect all clears the selection.
Empty the trash
Click Empty trash, then confirm. Everything in the local trash is deleted for good.
How long items stay
Your trash never empties itself: deleted items stay there until you restore them or delete them yourself. They keep taking up space. The Space view of the Folders page tells you how much the trash holds.
In an organization, an administrator can set a rule that clears old items from the trash.
Notes have their own trash, in the Notes section: see Organize your notes.
